Reasons To Be Cheerful - Can You Work Out All The Reasons To Be Cheerful

Reasons To Be Cheerful Like...

Like the unturned worm who alludes the early bird,

Like tailed blind mice, who outrun farmers wives,

Like the curious cat chasing the dog over the moon,

Like the dish bowled over by the golden spoon,

Like the cow fiddler fiddling in first place

Like birds in the breeze floating with ease,

Like a clam at high tide with a pearl hidden deep inside

Like snails who win races, and rabbits who jumped for joy,

Like spiders on walls with webs sitting all pretty

Like flies tickled pink, buzzing on something that stinks,

Like bugs all snug happily hugging in rugs

Like hot brass monkeys eating sweet ripe grapes,

Like elephants who are not trapped in rooms,

Like red hot bulls not shopping for China

Like whales having a whale of a time without jolly sailors,

Like shoals of fish making wishes,

Like kippers who never get flipped,

Like the black sheep...

Like the two tailed butchers dog burying bones,

Like the farmer who brought home the pig, not the bacon,

Like the boy, girl, or child, who never cried wolf

Like Humpty Dumpty who never sat on a wall,

Like a campers hamper brimming with endless cakes and ales

Like the upbeat beans that didn't get spilled

Like being as pleased as punch with a bowl full of cherries

Like the kettle and pot realising they both boil water,

Like jumping out of the fire and into the frying pan,

Like being handed an olive branch when going out on a limb,

Like having magic bones, sticks and stones won't break

Like a town painted in any other colour but red

Like when getting up, both sides of the bed being right

Like marrying in haste and living in bliss

Like having one foot in the door and not one foot in the grave.

Can you work out all the reasons to be cheerful?

Some will not get my claptrap and blunder rubbish, so here is a little explanation of all of the reasons to be cheerful!

A nonsense and not quite so no-nonsense children's rhyme.

Reasons To Be Cheerful Like...

Like the unturned worm who alludes the early bird,

  • The worm was unturned so deep underground and alludes the early bird who usually catches the worm

Like tailed blind mice, who outrun farmers wives,

  • Three blind mice had their tails cut off with a carving knife by the farmers wife, not mine they still have their tails and outrun father's wives

Like the curious cat chasing the dog over the moon,

  • Curiosity killed the cat! Not my happy cat who is over the moon chasing the dog, since dogs usually chase cats

Like the dish bowled over by the golden spoon,

  • The dish ran away with the spoon and was 'bowled over' when he realised the spoon was golden

Like the cow fiddler fiddling in first place

  • Since the cat chases the dog over the moon, the cow is left with the fiddle, and fiddles his way to first place

Like birds in the breeze floating with ease,

  • Birds floating along in easy breezes, do not have to work as hard to get along, flying against heavy winds is much harder work

Like a clam at high tide with a pearl hidden deep inside

  • It's almost impossible to dig for clams at high tide, so the clam keeps hold of his treasure (his insides)

Like snails who win races, and rabbits who jumped for joy,

  • Snails do not tend to win races, those who do so are happy and rabbits 'binky' when they are happy

Like spiders on walls with webs sitting all pretty

  • Spiders sitting pretty are safe and comfortable

Like flies tickled pink buzzing on something that stinks,

  • Flies love smelly things

Like bugs all snug happily hugging in rugs

  • Self explanatory - left alone to live their lives makes them happy

Like hot brass monkeys eating sweet ripe grapes,

  • Brass monkeys are usually cold, mine are hot eating sweet ripe grapes - not sour grapes

Like elephants who are not trapped in rooms,

  • The elephant in the room is a controversial problem, and elephants are big animals who are happier when not kept inside rooms

Like red hot bulls not shopping for china

  • The upset bull is able to be reckless away from places where it will be noticed and or killed, like not being inside a shop filled with china, and not being inside a ring!

Like whales having a whale of a time without jolly sailors,

  • Whales without sailors whaling, makes them both jolly

Like shoals of fish making wishes, like kippers who never get flipped,

  • Fish who make wishes that get answered so they never get flipped are happy - refer to 'without jolly sailors'

Like the two tailed butchers dog burying bones,

  • The dog who lived with the butcher with an endless supply of meat and bones, was so happy that he wagged his tail so quickly, it appeared as though he had two tails

Like the farmer who brought home the pig, not the bacon,

  • The farmer did not sell his much loved pig at market so brought him home instead of the money for his bacon or just his bacon. The farmer realised his pig made him happier than the money

Like the boy, girl, or child, who never cried wolf

  • Truthful children and truthful people are far happier than those who tell lies, liars are not rewarded and often live unhappy lives
  • Like Humpty Dumpty who never sat on a wall,
  • If he did not sit on the wall he did not have a great fall, and so would not need putting back together again, since he would be whole - likened to personality, a healthy personality is whole not split, divided and broken

Like a campers hamper brimming with endless cakes and ales

  • A camper is always happy if his hamper has an endless supply

Like the upbeat beans that didn't get spilled

  • Spilling the beans is a messy job usually in more ways than one, so the beans that didn't get spilled are upbeat and optimistic

Like being as pleased as punch with a bowl full of cherries

  • Pleased as punch that your punch bowl is full of cherries - life is filled with pleasure and enjoyment

Like the kettle and pot realising they both boil water

  • 'the pot calling the kettle black' - here they both realise they boil water and are not so didn't after all making them happier

Like jumping out of the fire and into the frying pan,

  • Instead of jumping into the fire from the frying pan, so in to a much worse situation, here you jump out of the fire into the frying pan, so into a much better situation

Like being handed an olive branch when going out on a limb,

  • Going out on a limb you are taking a risk and may fall, being handed an olive branch whilst taking a risk is being offered a helping hand

Like having magic bones, sticks and stones won't break

  • Magic bones impervious to and unaffected by sticks and stones, means not only do names not hurt you, sticks and stones cannot hurt you either

Like a town painted in any other colour but red

  • Painting a town red is spilling blood in riotous acts, so painting a town in any other colour but red is good

Like when getting up both sides of the bed being right

  • No matter what side of the bed you get out of, they are both always right

Like marrying in haste and living in bliss

  • 'Marry in haste repent at leisure' - Marry too quickly and be unhappy later on. However marrying in haste and living in bliss is the opposite

Like having one foot in the door and not one foot in the grave.

  • Have one foot in the door towards your next goal, and stop worrying about the inevitable, will inevitably make you happier.
